About the Author and Website Laurie Ross has been around horses for most of her life, working in racing stables as a hot walker and exercise rider in her teen years, and later as a volunteer with rescued and retired racehorses. When she was five, she learned to read the past performances and became interested in pedigree research when the sons and daughters of her favorite horses started their racing careers. For more than a decade, Laurie has intensely and passionately studied pedigree and breeding theories. In 2008, Laurie took the plunge into pedigree consulting. She put her pedigree knowledge to practical use and created the "Guide to Freshmen Sires," a complimentary 117 page Adobe E-Book covering each sire's conformation, breeding, past performances, surface preferences and precocity, with an analysis on expectations for their progeny. This internationally acclaimed Guide has developed into a useful tool for breeders, owners and handicappers. Laurie assists clients with breeding reports for their mares, sales catalogue analysis and recommendations on claims or private sales. She works closely with owners and trainers to find the horses and bloodlines to suit her clients' objectives. Ten to twenty percent of all profits are donated to thoroughbred rescue and re-training organizations. Laurie also offers complimentary handicapping seminars in the Chat room and provides detailed race analysis and selections for juvenile races using pedigree as the main component. She realized that few pedigree analysts include information on conformation and temperament in their writings and how these topics can be applied for practical handicapping purposes. Too often, the average handicapper is confused by the intricate details of pedigree theory and skips the races where this knowledge is most beneficial. Handicappers do best when they have the information and tools to help them make race selections. Knowing which sire's offspring have a propensity to perform well over a certain distance or surface can be invaluable when other data is limited. Currently, Laurie is compiling the 2010 Guide to Freshmen Sires and it will include a new layout design and features, as well as an update on the 2009 stallions. Next year's Guide will be available in regular book format and as an E-Book. In March 2010, Laurie began offering her profiles of Kentucky Derby contenders on Horse Racing Nation. Additionally, Minethatbird.com featured Laurie's 2009 profile of Mine That Bird and Kentucky Derby race analysis which included Mine That Bird as her longshot selection. |
